You design it. We build it. Your client never meets us.
futr is the delivery team behind design studios, marketing agencies and IT companies who have won work they cannot staff — or cannot build.
Since 2016 · 520+ brands · 452+ projects · Johannesburg, working internationally
The risk was never the project. It was the relationship.
You have won work beyond your internal capacity or capability. Turning it down costs you the account. Taking it on with the wrong people costs you the account and your reputation with it.
Most agency owners have been burned exactly once — a subcontractor who missed the date, replied-all to the client, left a build nobody else could maintain, or quietly approached that client six months later.
Everything on the following pages exists because of that last one.
Three kinds of partner. One arrangement.
IT companies and managed service providers
You already hold the client and the trust. What you do not hold is a design and web team. We become that team under your name, so “we handle that too” stops being a stretch.
Design studios
You design it to your standard. We engineer it on the platform you choose, to the specification you set, and hand it back for you to present as yours.
Marketing and social agencies
You run the accounts and the spend. We run the sites underneath them — build, management, support, and the technical work campaigns quietly depend on.
Four ways this actually runs.
Design to build
You supply the design. We build it on your stack, to your specification, in your repository where you have one. The most common arrangement, and the one studios come back for.
Full build
Design and development both, produced to your standards and presented as your studio’s work. Useful where you have won something outside your own discipline.
Care and support
Website management, maintenance, monitoring, updates and the support queue. The unglamorous retained work that stops a client drifting to whoever calls them next.
Specialist drop-in
Automation, integrations, migrations, SEO, Google Ads or technical rescue, placed into your team exactly where the gap is rather than as a whole engagement.
No packages and no rate card. Every engagement is quoted against its actual scope.
Your stack, not ours.
We have no platform to sell you. The right one is whichever your client’s team can operate and you can support after we step back.
WordPress and WooCommerce
The most requested, and the most often built badly. Editor-operable rather than developer-locked, so your client can run it and you are not the bottleneck.
Shopify
Where commerce genuinely fits it. A custom build only where it genuinely does not.
Webflow
When your team wants to keep hands on the front end after handover.
Payload and Next.js
When the content model is the hard part, or when performance is the point rather than a line in the brief.
Migrations
Off Wix, Squarespace or a legacy build — without losing rankings, orders or customer access. This is where most rebuilds actually fail.
What protects your relationship, agreed before the first line of work.
Not negotiated after something has gone wrong. These are in writing at the start of every partner engagement.
- 01Non-solicitation, in writing. We do not approach your client during the engagement or after it. Not “for twelve months” — at all.
- 02No futr branding anywhere. No credit line, no footer link, no backlink, nothing in the page source that names us.
- 03We never contact your client directly unless you put us in the room and tell us how to behave in it.
- 04Your tools and your cadence. Your project board, your channels, your naming conventions, your reporting rhythm.
- 05Handover without hostages. Nothing gets built that only we can maintain — you receive the repository, the credentials and the documentation.
- 06Your margin is yours. We quote to you. What you charge your client is not our business and we never need to know it.
The partner work is the work we cannot show you.
That is not evasion — it is the product. What follows is work we are free to show, published here with permission: the same standard your build would be held to.
- Spoormaker & PartnersEngineering consultancy · design, development and a CMS their own team operates
- Miss Angler13,000 customers moved off Wix onto WordPress with orders, entitlements and rankings intact
- KahindoNew York luxury fashion · client featured in Vogue and WWD
- Scan RFTechnical industrial catalogue with trade and retail routes
- Retirement CounselorsRegulated financial services · a compliance-sensitive content model
- Vita SerenaBuilt from nothing — name, brand, store and acquisition
Partner references are available on request, with that partner’s permission. They are not published here, and neither is yours.
Many agencies, studios and IT companies route work through us. None of them are named here, and that is the point.
Six phases, weekly evidence, and one named person who owns the outcome.
Understand, Define, Design, Engineer, Prove, Launch and evolve — with formal gates at strategy, design, build completion and launch readiness.
You get the evidence at the cadence your own client expects it from you, in a form you can forward without rewriting it. Device QA, Core Web Vitals and WCAG 2.2 AA on core journeys are part of Prove — not an invoice line afterwards.
The two owners who quote the work are the two who do it. There is no junior tier, because there are no tiers.
The full process is published at futragency.com/process, including how change requests are handled.
Quoted to you. Never to your client.
Per project
Scoped and quoted against what it actually involves. No rate card, because an honest one does not exist — the same page count can be a fortnight or a quarter.
Retained capacity
Monthly, where you need to promise availability rather than a deliverable. Useful when you are pitching work you have not won yet.
Your margin
You are the client on the engagement. You set what you charge downstream, and we never need to see it.
The first conversation is thirty minutes.
Bring a live example — something you have just won, or something you keep turning down. That is a far more useful half hour than a capability overview.
