Kahindo

Designed in New York, handcrafted in Nairobi — an e-commerce experience built to carry provenance as carefully as product.

Editorial fashion still — an occasion-wear piece in motion against a plain warm backdrop, shot with the fabric catching light. Luxury magazine register, generous negative space to the left for a headline overlay.

01

The business

Ethical luxury occasion wear, designed in New York and handcrafted in Kenya through a women-led cooperative in Nairobi.

02

The problem

Provenance is the product as much as the garment is. Most commerce templates treat it as a paragraph on an About page, which is exactly where nobody reads it.

Image · kahindo-artisan · 4:3

Documentary-style photograph of the Nairobi cooperative at work — hands, fabric, machinery, natural light. Honest and warm rather than staged. Must be shot with the artisans’ consent and credited.

03

The response

Put provenance in the buying journey rather than beside it — production detail attached to the product, not filed behind a link.

Product page shown on a phone, held in frame — the garment above, provenance card visible below the fold. Demonstrates the mechanic rather than the styling.

04

The engineering

Built on Shopify because the commercial model fits it. The interesting work is the content model behind the product — provenance as structured data rather than free text.

05

The result

A store that carries a luxury register and an ethical claim at the same time, without either undermining the other.
